What was 'your' family's story? Below your family portrait leave a comment to share 'your' family's story. What was 'your' family's name? What was your first name? How old were 'you'? What was life like aboard the ship for 'your' family? Why did you choose to start a new life in New Zealand? Unfortunately, the 'MacCleland' family portrait did not work - perhaps the sea was too rough... (There may be another one floating around on a camera out there - if so it would be great if you could email it through.)

Room 24 are off to learn about Dunedin's Early Settlers tomorrow!
A couple of reminders -
1. Be on time - we will be leaving just after the 8:50 bell rings.
2. Pack a hearty lunch and a drink bottle full of water
3. Raincoat and sunhat (hopefully we use the sunhat, not the raincoat)
4. Wear correct P.E gear to school - you can also wear this home (lucky you). If you do not have correct P.E gear then you'll need to be wearing your school uniform.
Arden, Anna, Lucy, Shay and Zac - I'll meet your Mums and Dads in the classroom at 8:45am.
Wonderful, I'm looking forward to learning a lot about Dunedin's early settlers!

Year 7 Assembly Teamwork Award
Good stuff Sophie! You are always offering encouragement (not honking - like we watched in the Geese clip on Friday). You listen to other's ideas and contribute ideas of your own. Keep up the good teamwork - these skills are super important!
The History Behind The Name Of Your Street
This week for homework your mission is to investigate the history behind your street's name. This fits in perfectly with our Identity topic as we are delving into Dunedin's history. Here are a few places you could look if you are having trouble finding information.
* You could visit the 'Te Ara' link down the right hand side of the page.
* The Dunedin City Library could come in very handy.
* Papers past - is a past newspaper site that could be useful.
* Angus suggested asking a knowledgeable neighbour - this is a good idea if you know a good neighbour that might be able to help you. Make sure you let them know about the homework task, so they understand the activity.
* Tomorrow Caleb and Josh D are going to run us through how to run an 'Advanced Google Search'
Presentation (Good question Sophie)
I will give you a street sign (a small paper one) to present your information on tomorrow. It will be big enough to write 3-4 sentences on as well as the street name, so when collecting information take down just the main points.
How are you getting on? Have you found out any good stories?

What a feeling it is when you drive a golf ball successfully! We certainly had a few good shots today (and a few smaller shots as well... Whoops.)

Check out these creatures designed by the Room 24ians!
Room 24, these are AMAZING!!! I am impressed! We really got our Thursday off to a bang looking at all of these. I couldn't help myself and had to put them up on the blog tonight (even though they are due tomorrow). Really looking forward to showing Mrs Brady what you creative students came up with. What an effort Room 24!

Congratulations!!!
I'm pleased to announce our new Class Councillors....Sophie
Kelland (deputy)
We know you'll do a great job.
Well done to all of the students who took up the opportunity to stand in the running for our class Councillor. What a tough choice we had to make!
Now for the librarian announcement...
Lucy
Deborah
Josh D
Well done!
Other responsibilities in Room 24 are filled by the following...
Computer monitors - Shay and Logan (who have already got off to a flying start by fixing our laptops!)
Sports monitors - Caleb and Christie (who I know will make sure we are always ready for fitness and P.E!)
Cafe monitor - Megan (who has been doing regular inspections - good job!)
The Gardener - Deborah (the plants are already starting to look happier! Thank you!)
There will be plenty more opportunities to take on a leadership role...

Remember to bring along your togs on Monday. We'll start walking at 10:00. If you have your correct P.E gear you can wear that. Bring a raincoat if the weather looks dodgy. Thank you to the parents who are joining us. Meet us outside Room 24 at 10:00.
