This week for homework your mission is to investigate the history behind your street's name. This fits in perfectly with our Identity topic as we are delving into Dunedin's history. Here are a few places you could look if you are having trouble finding information.
* You could visit the 'Te Ara' link down the right hand side of the page.
* The Dunedin City Library could come in very handy.
* Papers past - is a past newspaper site that could be useful.
* Angus suggested asking a knowledgeable neighbour - this is a good idea if you know a good neighbour that might be able to help you. Make sure you let them know about the homework task, so they understand the activity.
* Tomorrow Caleb and Josh D are going to run us through how to run an 'Advanced Google Search'
Presentation (Good question Sophie)
I will give you a street sign (a small paper one) to present your information on tomorrow. It will be big enough to write 3-4 sentences on as well as the street name, so when collecting information take down just the main points.
How are you getting on? Have you found out any good stories?
When we do the street name project what do we do it on and are we able to do the a street around us as well

Go for it Sophie! You sound like you have 'struck gold' with the information. Where did you look to find the information? Was it in that family history book of yours?
ReplyDeleteThanks Arden, I'm pleased you are enjoying checking out our Blogpage. Grandparents are also a good source of useful information...
